This is definitely one to tick off your bucket list as we’re abseiling down the iconic Avon Gorge – measuring a whopping 100ft. Last year’s sell-out event saw 120 people abseil down Bristol Royal Hospital for Children, raising an incredible £47,000 for your hospitals across Bristol and Weston. Will you brave the descent and join us for this thrilling experience? Whether you sign up to the Big Bristol Abseil as an individual or as a team, we can promise you an amazing day and full fundraising support. Don't miss out on this fantastic event. We have limited places available – grab yours now! Registration is just £25 and the fundraising target is £200. The registration fee covers most of your costs, meaning more of your fundraising goes directly to the hospitals. Are you an NHS staff member at UHBW? Great news! We're offering you 20% off your sign up fees. Get in touch and we will send you your UHBW NHS discount code. Event now closed. It also happens to be Mother’s Day, so what better way to make your superhero status official than abseiling down Avon Gorge (capes encouraged) in front of your immeasurably proud family? How about getting the girls together and seriously impressing your little ones when you all fly down the gorge? Or maybe Dad needs to give Mum the day off and show her he really would move (climb down) mountains for her? If Mother’s Day is a tough day for you and you would like to celebrate the memory of your amazing mum, taking on this challenge and raising money in her memory could be a great way to do just that. "After the medical hell I have had in the last few years; spinal fracture, double pelvic fracture, horse bit my ear off and cancer. Register your interest for the next Big Bristol Abseil FAQ's How fit do I need to be to take part? You don’t need to train for this event, but it is suggested you have a reasonable level of mobility. Please note that you will be required to walk down The Gully and back up to the abseil point. Being able to climb a flight of stairs quickly, jump a foot off the ground and climb over a fence unattended are good examples of the mobility needed for this event. Please consult your doctor if you are unsure. You will be required to fill out a medical form before the event. Are there any restrictions? Age – All participants must be aged 18 or over, unless they are accompanied by a parent or legal guardian (in this case, a minimum age of 14 then applies.) The parent or guardian must complete a Parental Consent Form prior to the event. Weight – The weight restriction for this event is 20 stone. If this applies to you, get in touch and we will discuss the possibility of participation with the events company. I’ve never fundraised before, and I don’t know where to start. What do I do? A online fundraising page will automatically be set up for you when you sign up and you'll receive further information and tips from our dedicated fundraising team to help you plan out your fundraising! Fundraising is fun and exciting once you know what to do. We support you every step of the way to make sure you have the best experience! What if I don't reach the minimum sponsorship target? By registering for this challenge you are pledging to raise the minimum sponsorship of £200 before the event and understand that it is the aim of this challenge to raise as much as possible for your hospitals. If you cannot raise the minimum sponsorship your place will be forfeited unless you make up the balance yourself. Don’t worry, our fundraising team is on hand to help you reach the target and make the whole experience fun! Will the event be Covid-19 safe? The Big Bristol Abseil will have extra safety measures and we’ll be sending out additional guidance to all participants ahead of the day. The health and wellbeing of those taking part, their friends and family, and patients and staff on the hospital sites is our primary concern. We will continue to review the situation in line with the Government advice. What if I can no longer take part due to self-isolation or Covid? Unfortunately in this scenario we will not be able to refund either your registration fee or your sponsorship as it will be too late to offer the place to another individual. What if the event can’t go ahead? We sincerely hope the Big Bristol Abseil will be able to go ahead, but there is the potential for further disruption due to the pandemic or in the event of thunder and lightening. In this event, we will transfer your place to a new date for the event. If we need to move the Big Bristol Abseil, we will still owe payment to many of our suppliers and in some cases we may need to pay twice. This could put a big hole in the money raised for Bristol & Weston hospitals and, as such, we respectfully ask that if you can’t make the new date for the event that you kindly donate your registration fee. What happens to the money I raise? The money you raise will help our Bristol city centre hospitals and their staff to do even more to treat and care for patients and their families, wherever the need is greatest. Will I get my picture taken at the top? Photos will be taken on the day and shared afterwards, and we may use these images for promotion of future events. Whilst we do our best to ensure there is a photo of everyone, we cannot guarantee this. There will be plenty of opportunities for friends and family to take snaps of you. If you would prefer not to have your picture taken please let us know on the day. If you'd like to find out more before you sign up, please contact us at [email protected] or call on 0117 927 7120.
