Beat Loneliness with our community

Connecting with people and feeling part of a community is human nature. This week is Mental Health Awareness Week and the theme is ‘Loneliness’.

Here are six ways you can help beat the blues, feel a little less lonely and also help make a difference to your community:

Get moving! We all know exercise is great for mental health, but we also know how difficult it can be to get started. Start simple with walking or set yourself a challenge such as our Challenge 13 or one of our other events.BWHC fundraisers walking

Whether you fundraise as an individual, as a team, or with your work, fundraising has a really positive impact on your mental health. Plus it is great fun! It is called ‘fun’draising for a reason. From the Brecon Beacon 10 Peaks to the Inflatable 5k Bristol, our team will be on hand to support you every step of the way.

Volunteering is incredibly rewarding, can improve mood and is a great way to meet new people. From volunteering in our fundraising hub, in our office or even at our events, taking time out of your schedule to help others can unlock an inner joy and make you feel like part of the larger community.

Events are a great way to get your friends and family together, plus organising an event can help distract from loneliness. You could have an NHS tea party or host a Jubilee street party in your neighbourhood for a summer of celebration. Food + friends = fun.

Maybe you have a knack for knitting or arts and crafts and would like to donate your creations to our fundraising hub. Or you could discover a joy for baking and have a bake sale. Not only are hobbies a mood booster and a good distraction from loneliness, but you’ll be doing something great for your community.
