New cancer support boxes have been funded at Weston General Hospital (WGH).

The Macmillan Cancer Centre at WGH provides support not only to cancer patients, but to their families as well.

The cancer support boxes are toolkits created for children or young people affected by their parents’ cancer diagnosis. There are four different kits for different age ranges.

Suitable for children aged from three-years-old, the kits come with age-appropriate tools to help children understand what cancer is, the treatment given and any side-effects.

Emma Pugh, manager at the cancer centre, said: “These kits provide invaluable support to cancer patients, as well as children and parents.

“They provide tools to improve communication within the family, practical tools to help manage changes in the family’s routine and tools that explore the emotional impact a cancer diagnosis brings.

“Everyone at the centre is really grateful for the donations that make providing outstanding care possible.”
