To celebrate National Volunteer's Week, our Volunteer Co-ordinate Lindsey looks back on the last year and how the pandemic has effected volunteering at Above & Beyond.

We have had quite a year and at Above & Beyond the impact of the last year has sadly meant no face-to-face volunteering at all. This has had a real impact on our volunteers - I know, as they have told me! A week doesn’t go by without a volunteer contacting me to say how much they miss us and want to return as soon as possible to their volunteering role.  I have kept in contact with all of them on a fortnightly basis through our volunteer email and this has certainly helped the communication with our dedicated, and much appreciated volunteer team.

Fundraising Hub at the BRIHaving said this, I must mention the volunteers that have kept going throughout lockdown, in a remote way. We recruited 11 new Social Media Volunteers who have continued to keep our messages alive throughout this period and also have 12 new volunteers waiting in the wings to start supporting Bristol's hospitals when everything begins opening up again. Alongside this we have some really well-established volunteers who have been kept busy with much needed research for many members of our team. Thank you so much for sticking with us and supporting us throughout this difficult time.

As we look forward and begin to make plans for volunteers returning, we have begun to look at opening up the Fundraising Hub, our shop in the Bristol Royal Infirmary. We’re also planning for volunteers to help us with our new campaigns and begin actual live collections in the very near future. Plus we can’t wait to begin our ‘on hold’ volunteering roles as soon as possible!

There will be roles available on our website very soon, including a very exciting new role for a Fundraising Hub Lead Volunteer. This role will be to support the reopening of the shop and to help with stock control, ordering and generally be the font of knowledge on all things ‘Fundraising Hub’! If you are interested in this or any other volunteer opportunities, please contact [email protected] 0117 9926472.

I would like to take this opportunity, in National Volunteers' Week to thank our many volunteers for their continued support throughout the past year and I can’t wait to see you and work with you all again!
