An award-winning children's author visited Bristol Royal Hospital for Children last week to read a selection of stories.

Geraldine McCaughrean was joined by illustrator Tom Bonson as the pair read to children. They then helped them create their own characters to star in new stories.

Geraldine wrote the story 'Sidecar' for Above & Beyond's children’s anthology ‘Don’t Be Scared’. The book was launched to raise funds for the Children's Hospital. It also features authors and illustrators including Jacqueline Wilson, Roald Dahl, Michael Morpurgo, Quentin Blake and more.

Joanna Herbelot, who works in the School Room at BRHC, said: "The children loved it!  They were inspired by a real life author and illustrator who made their weird and wonderful stories come to life!  Wonderful!"
