Staff fundraising Fundraising at your hospital for your hospitals The UHBW hospitals are full of fundraising heroes who go above and beyond to raise extra funds for their wards and departments. Recent fundraising from hospital teams include the Bristol Heart Institute staff - and their friends and family - that took part in the Cotswold 24-hour Relay Race to raise over £7,000 for the BHI Appeal, and the team from Bristol Haematology and Oncology Centre that took on a summer of fundraising, culminating with the National Three Peaks Challenge, to raise funds for the Ward D603 Appeal. If you want to fundraise for your hospitals, here are some of the ways you can get involved and resources to help you get started: Bake sales The classic charity fundraising activity! Bake sales are always popular with your fellow colleagues and the public. Look out for specific dates that could provide a theme e.g. Easter, Halloween or the NHS birthday (5 July), or perhaps even a health awareness day so you can draw attention to an important health matter at the same time as fundraising. Ward raffles Organising a ward raffle is a simple way to raise funds for your hospitals and you’ll find lots of colleagues, friends and family members, and members of the public willing to buy a ticket or two! Local businesses and attractions will often donate prizes to charity raffles, so get in touch with them to see if they are willing to support you. Many businesses will ask for a letter of authority to prove that you are fundraising for a charity so just get in touch and we can provide you with one of these. Please get in touch with our team at [email protected] and we will arrange to have tickets delivered via internal post or you can pick them up from the office. You will be covered by our raffle licence and can find out any further information you might need from the team. Events Walking, running, cycling, swimming… bog snorkelling! Challenge yourself by taking on an event such as the Bristol 10k, Bristol Half Marathon or the Big Bristol Abseil. You can also create your own ‘virtual’ challenge by committing to a summer of Park Runs or to swimming 100 miles in a month. Whatever you come up with, we’ll be there to support you with materials, guidance on setting up an online fundraising page and, most importantly, loads of enthusiasm! If you already have a place at a challenge event and would like to fundraise for your hospitals, please fill in our 'I have my own place' form and the team will get in touch to support your fundraising! Explore our great events Recycle your ink cartridges Donate your empty ink cartridges to Think Inks for recycling and our charity will receive up to £5 for each one. Sending empty cartridges to Think Inks is easy; request a FREEPOST bag from the Think Inks website, selecting Above & Beyond as your charity, and it will be sent to your address. Fill the bag with your empty cartridges (two to ten cartridges are permitted in each bag) to recycle. The bag can then be posted in any post box, for free.
