Above & Beyond supporter Lucy Vowles has self-published a recipe book titled 'Favourites for Foodies' to raise funds for our hospitals.

Lucy held a successful book launch at her home on Monday 20 November, at which she sold over 100 books, followed by a pop-up stall in the Welcome Centre in the Bristol Royal Infirmary on Tuesday 28 November.

Priced at £15, 'Favourites for Foodies' will be sold in our Fundraising Hub at the Welcome Centre as well as in our new online shop. It's full of comfort-food favourites gathered together from friends and family and is the perfect gift for Christmas!

Lucy has supported Above & Beyond for a number of years after seeing family and friends benefit from the outstanding care provided at our hospitals.

I owe a world of thanks to the brilliant care our hospitals provide. My father was rushed to hospital for a triple heart bypass at the BHI and Dr Bryan saved his life. To say thank you, my parents have made monthly donations to Above & Beyond ever since and I have got more and more involved with the charity.

My close friend Libby was treated at Bristol Haematology and Oncology Centre for bowel cancer. After an incredibly dignified fight she sadly passed away last September at just 35. We held a special memorial ball in her honour and raised over £50,000 for her three chosen charities, one of which was Above & Beyond. Every member of staff was amazing throughout and I can’t tell you enough how important it was to know my family and friends were being given the best possible care.

As well as organising Libby's memorial ball and publishing the 'Favourite for Foodies' book, Lucy took part in the Bristol Half Marathon in 2016, did a 10,000ft skydive in September 2017 and will run the London Marathon on behalf of Above & Beyond in 2018.

All proceeds from the sale of the book will go towards areas that are close to Lucy's heart, including our BHI Appeal, Clinical Research Fellowships at Bristol Haematology and Oncology Centre and the 3D ultrasound scanner for the Fetal Medicine Unit at St Michael's Hospital.
