On Monday 15th November, voting officially opened to the public and with a close vote, James and the team just pipped the Louth Run for Life to first place. ABOUT JAMES James Iddon, whose main career is a matron in the NHS in Bristol, was diagnosed with head and neck cancer in April last year and shared his story with the charity as part of our Bristol Against Cancer campaign. Having received his treatment at Bristol Haematology and Oncology Centre (BHOC), James signed up to run the London Marathon for Bristol & Weston Hospitals Charity to celebrate the year he beat cancer. Sadly, in May this year, James received the devastating diagnosis that not only had his cancer returned, it is now terminal, leaving him unable to complete his charity challenge. As an RAF Reserve at Brize Norton, James’ colleagues and friends from the military decided to do their own marathons to help James hit his fundraising target. They each ran or cycled their own marathon challenge and have now raised almost £10,000. To go some small way to saying thank you to James and his team. we nominated them in the Fundraiser of the Year category at the Charity Today Awards, and they only went and won!
