The mum of a patient treated at Bristol Children’s Hospital has raised £500 with a ladies’ night to say thank you for care.

Katie Cuer gave birth to twins in 2017, but after six days her daughter Skylar had lost 14 per cent of her body weight.

After being admitted to hospital, it was found Skylar had a cleft pallet. Katie had bottle feeding training and a week before Skylar’s first birthday she had the pallet repaired at Bristol Children's Hospital.

Katie said: “The nursing staff, play staff, HCAs - the whole team were just amazing. The care we received was second to none.

“Skylar wouldn’t leave my side after surgery, so the staff got us a proper bed for me to sleep with Skylar in as well and they searched for fans (it was the hottest summer to date and boy didn’t we all know it on that ward!).”

To say thank you for the care Skylar received on Penguin Ward, Katie organised a ladies’ night with live entertainment and a raffle. In total she raised £500 for the hospital.

Joanna Howarth, from the team at Above & Beyond, said: “We all want to say a big thank you to Katie for putting on her amazing ladies’ night to raise money.

“It’s fantastic to see Skylar doing so well now and the money raised will make a real difference to patients like her in the future.”
