A nursing assistant at the Bristol Royal Infirmary (BRI) has run a 36-mile (58km) ultramarathon around the Jurassic Coast to raise money for Above & Beyond.

Juli Widjajanti Gusler, from Whitchurch, Bristol, was joined by her daughter Tiff as they took on the Jurassic Coast Challenge on Saturday 22 May 2021.

Juli and Tiff with their Jurassic Coast Challenge medalsDespite the pair facing sickness and a twisted ankle, Juli finished 124th out of 500 runners and Tiff finished in 19th place in the women overall division.

Juli said: “Going up the hills was a challenge, especially the four hills starting from Lulworth Cove, but people were keen to help out when they saw others struggling.

“We know how hard hospital staff have been working since before the pandemic. We hope to raise money to make sure our doctors, nurses and all the hospital staff have everything they need at this difficult time.”

In the past Juli and Tiff have hiked Mount Fuji and Mount Snowdon together, but this is their first race together.

Juli said: “In a way the pandemic has brought us together to train for the Jurassic Coast Challenge.

“Now we’re planning to run another ultramarathon in the near future.”
