Design concept for the children's research centre The initial design concepts for the purpose-built research centre at Bristol Royal Hospital for Children (BRHC) are now here! With a plan to launch the facility at the end of 2023, this pioneering new centre will become the first children’s research centre in the South West and transform lives. Joint-funded with UHBW NHS Trust, the plans for the centre have been informed by discussions with the hospital staff, as well as patients and their families, ensuring that this purpose-built centre will meet everyone's needs. Click on the orange icons below to see what this ground-breaking facility will include: The children's research centre will have: A CALM AND COMFORTABLE WAITING AREA A calm and comfortable waiting room to ease children's anxiety whilst waiting for their appointment, tests or treatment. "If they can picture where they’re going to be and they can remember that it was a nice friendly place, it can make a huge difference to children if they’re anxious about procedures.” BRHC staff member TWO PATIENT BAYS The facility will include two patient beds for overnight stays. Staff will no longer have to battle for beds for their patients which means more children will be able to take part in life-changing research trials. “At the moment we can't guarantee them a bed on a ward, which means we can't offer that treatment to our families.” Said a member of the research team at BRHC. STAFF SPACES This will make it easier and more efficient for staff to prepare the treatments all within the same facility. “Not having a research centre is quite hard at times because you don’t know where to find anything.” BRHC staff member CONSULTATION ROOMS Two dedicated outpatient rooms will ensure a more confidential, private setting for patients to be examined and treated. “Currently, we spend an extraordinary amount of time trying to find a clinic room, a bed, a place, a corridor, anything like that..” BRHC staff member “If we had an environment that we could control, the whole process would be much more comfortable and respectful for them” With your support we can make this centre a reality.
