Our impact Latest news Cake Tin is baking a difference for your NHS A sweet new charity partnership has been baking between Bristol & Weston Hospitals Charity and one of Bristol's hottest new treat spots, Cake Tin. NHS staff, patients and visitors will have the chance to experience Cake Tin's legendary mouth-watering, freshly baked, deep-filled cookies in a series of pop-up stalls planned across city centre hospitals. 10% of every pop up sale is donated to BWHC and will go on to do great things for patients. “At our first pop-up at St Michael's Hospital" says owner Maynaz, "I overheard one nurse saying to another: ‘Imagine the best cookie you’ve ever tried – this is even better!’” The joy will keep coming too as there is a brand new cookie flavour being crafted for this exclusive partnership and will be ready to launch on the NHS' birthday in July. MAYNAZ'S STORY Bristol-based independent Cake Tin was founded by entrepreneur Maynaz, 43, who launched the business after being inspired on a trip to New York. She said: “For my 40th birthday, my husband surprised me with a trip to New York. As a big foodie, I set out to find the best places to eat and discovered a bakery that made the most incredible cookie I’d ever tasted. I went back three days in a row, even bringing some home for my family, and it really sparked the idea that led to Cake Tin.” On arriving home, Maynaz set herself the challenge of recreating the cookie, tweaking the recipe for friends and families until she was happy with the end result. “It took me about nine months to perfect the recipe and get the cookies to where they looked like professional, bakery-made items, and everyone was like, this is the best cookie we’ve had!” Maynaz began selling at local markets and pop-ups, quickly building a loyal following for her signature chunky, gooey cookies. “I started off with five varieties. Now we have 15 different flavours, so yes, the business is growing into something. I’m super-proud. It hasn’t come easy, especially waking up at 4am to bake cookies before getting the kids up for school!” In December, Maynaz opened her shop on St Michael’s Hill, where she regularly sells out of hundreds of cookies each week – all handmade on the premises using premium ingredients, including Belgian chocolate, real butter and free-range eggs. A SWEET NEW PARTNERSHIP Partnering with Bristol & Weston Hospitals Charity was another way to connect with the local community – something Maynaz is passionate about. After meeting the charity in December, she immediately got involved, donating boxes of cookies for Bristol Bears players to hand out to patients during their visits to hospital wards. “I’m so proud to be working with Bristol & Weston Hospitals Charity. I’ve had all three of my children at St Michael’s, and we’ve used the children’s hospital too, so supporting our local NHS really means something to me. “The pop-ups are a way of giving something back to the staff who do such an incredible job every day and bringing a small treat into their day.” Located just up the road from one of Bristol’s busiest maternity hospitals, St Michael’s Hospital, Cake Tin has already become a favourite among hospital teams in the six months it has been open. Midwives, clinicians, and new parents regularly pick up boxes of cookies to share, turning them into a much-loved treat on the wards. Details of pop-up dates and locations will be announced in the coming weeks. And we can't wait!
