A patient treated at Bristol Haematology and Oncology Centre for testicular cancer is taking on a 24 hour 100km walk to raise funds for charity.

Pete Strang, 34, discovered three lumps on one of his testicles in November 2014 and had an orchidectomy at the start of 2015.

Now to say thank you for the care he received he is raising money for Above & Beyond.

The sports centre manager has joined with three friends – Tom Hill, Chris Jenkins and Dan White - to take on the Thames Path Challenge – a 100km walk along the Thames to be completed in 24 hours.

Pete said: “I cannot fault the care and treatment I received and it would be hard to make any improvements from the experience I have had.

“My friends and I decided to fundraise for Above & Beyond as I had personal experience of Bristol’s hospitals and it was important that we chose a cause that was close to one of us.”

Just three months after his orchidectomy, a monthly blood test revealed Pete’s cancer had returned and attached to some nodes behind his stomach.

He had nine weeks of chemotherapy followed by regular check-ups.

Pete said: “The staff in the hospitals were incredible and I was fortunate enough that I had great friends and family that came to visit me during my hospital stays.

“I’m now on annual visits with one last check due in May 2019 before I can be signed off.”
