Rachel McCoubrie, a member of staff at University Hospital Bristol and Weston NHS Foundation Trust (UHBW), is taking on a fundraising wing walk to raise money for her NHS charity.

Rachel is fundraising for Bristol & Weston Hospitals CharityHaving worked at the Trust for 16 years, Rachel was initially a Palliative Care Consultant and is now leading on support and wellbeing for doctors.

She said: “During my time at the Trust I have witnessed what a difference the charity has made for both patients and staff. Without their input, many initiatives would not have been possible."

Rachel is completing her wing walk on 8th October, joining the charity’s wing walk and skydive day. She’ll be soaring at speeds of up to 130 miles per hour at Dunkeswell Airfield in Devon.

“I’ve taken on various adrenaline activities over the years such as skydiving three times, bungee jumping, whitewater rafting etc,” Rachel added.

“When I turned 50 last year, I wanted to take on a new challenge to mark that milestone but the pandemic got in the way. When I saw this opportunity, I thought this would be perfect to not only do something new and exciting, but also to raise money for our hospital charity who support so many initiatives for our patients and for staff wellbeing.

I feel very lucky to be able to work as the wellbeing lead for doctors in UHBW, and I hope doing this is a way of giving back to help fund future work through the charity.

“I’m looking forward to the adrenaline rush as the plane takes flight, and seeing the views as we fly, though I have to admit that the nerves are kicking in a little now this is becoming a reality!”
