Bristol & Weston Hospitals Charity funded an oncology menopause clinic based in Bristol for 12 months, with one clinic a month. In this 12-month period 115 individuals benefitted from the specialist service at St Michael’s Hospital.

We were able to fund this project thanks to a generous grant from the James Tudor Foundation.

I’ve been very excited about this menopause clinic as I’ve done so much research about menopause and it is all for older women, with kids and no cancer, which made me feel very alone. Speaking to people who understand and can answer and explain things specifically to me is fab! Thank you.

The services offers a holistic approach with management choices tailored to the individual’s needs. This includes:

  • Counselling
  • Non-hormonal medication
  • Yoga
  • Weight-management services
  • Hormone replacement therapy (HRT).

A breast surgeon at Southmead Hospital, part of the North Bristol NHS Trust, said: “It is often not given the recognition it deserves - how much menopause can impact upon a woman’s working and social life. When menopause is induced or exacerbated by breast cancer treatment the effect can be devastating. I have only had positive feedback from those who have attended this clinic."
