Two members of UH Bristol staff have attended and presented at a conference in Brussels thanks to a grant from Above & Beyond.

John Warburton and Nick Jones went to the International Symposium for Intensive Care and Emergency Medicine (ISICEM) from 18 to 22 March.

At the conference world leaders gave updates on a wide variety of subjects, including genetic considerations in specific patients and medical considerations for the mission to Mars.

While there the pair presented a poster on the use of electronic prescribing systems to influence prescribing habits.

John, a critical care pharmacist, said: "There were so many talks that have influenced my practice as a specialist pharmacist and prescriber.

"Attending the conference gave an excellent opportunity to ‘compare notes’ with other critical care pharmacists, enter into new collaborative research projects together and learn collectively from our independent projects.

"I was particularly excited that the Above & Beyond grant also facilitated the attendance of one of my junior colleagues who had been central to the publication of our research findings at the conference.

"His enthusiasm through his learning at this event combined with pride at presenting our work internationally is infectious and will foster the desire for further much needed research, quality improvement and dissemination of the ideas gained."
