Donations to Above & Beyond have funded a year’s supply of craft materials for Bristol Royal Hospital for Children.

The Play Team at the hospital require a range of resources, in addition to what the NHS can provide, to improve the wellbeing of patients and normalise the hospital experience.

The charity’s annual investment in the arts and crafts resources is particularly important this year due to the effects of Covid-19.

Julie Fisher, Play Team Manager at UHBW, said: “The funding from Above & Beyond helps us to ensure we have the most useful equipment for each patient group.

“Often children will regress when in hospital due to illness and anxiety, but by having a range of craft materials available means we will be able to help them build on their wellbeing.

“Due to Covid-19 we have spent more on arts and crafts than in previous years. We have had to replace some items and duplicate many more due to infection control. All board games and card games have needed to be replaced with less risky equipment. We have lost the ability to facilitate group sessions and have therefore relied on more resources being used simultaneously.”

The materials funded by Above & Beyond are over and above what the NHS alone can provide, helping to improve the range of materials available and the suitability for a wider range of patients, including those with limited movement or ability.

By making a donation today, you can help us continue to the be there for young patients at Bristol children’s hospital.
