Supporters of the Bristol Heart Institute (BHI) have been celebrating raising £830,000 for the hospital.

Above & Beyond invited supporters of the BHI Appeal to celebrate with them in the hospital’s atrium on Thursday (16 May).

Gary Johnson, former manager of Bristol City Football Club, was the ambassador for the appeal following his treatment at the hospital in 2017.

Paul Kearney, CEO of Above & Beyond, said: “It was fantastic to have all our BHI supporters in one room. The appeal was a huge success and I’d to thank everyone who played a part.

“Our vital work with the BHI is ongoing so anyone interested in making a donation or doing some fundraising can get in touch.”

The BHI Appeal started in 2017 and raised £830,000 for the hospital. The funds will be used for the latest equipment, including iPads that can be used as a physiotherapy tool, CorKnot devices, which assist surgeons carrying out intricate keyhole surgery, and new ultrasound equipment for the theatres.

The largest part of the appeal was the relocation of the echocardiography facility from the Bristol Royal Infirmary to the BHI.

The new facility will be next to the Cardiac Intensive Care Unit, meaning extremely poorly patients will no longer have to make the long trip between the hospitals.
