Hundreds of knitted hearts have appeared at College Green to say you to the Bristol community for their support during a charity appeal.

Above & Beyond organised the event to celebrate the end of their Bristol Heart Institute Appeal which raised £830,000 for the hospital.

The money raised will provide the latest treatments, surgery techniques and facilities at the BHI.

The knitted and crocheted hearts have all been created by charity volunteers and will decorate the tree on College Green for two weeks. Many of the volunteers have friends or family who have been treated at the hospital or have been patients themselves.

Lydia McGivern, Above & Beyond community fundraising officer, said: “The Yarnbomb is the perfect way to celebrate the end of the BHI Appeal and say thank you to everyone who has worked so hard to help us hit the target.

“It’s a fantastic way to recognise all the hard working staff at the hospital, as well as remembering loved ones who have been treated there.”

People are invited to share their photos using the hashtag #BHIYarnbomb.
