A 30-strong team of staff from sterile services at the Bristol Royal Infirmary (BRI) are doing a mile per person every day for the whole of April to raise money for Above & Beyond.

While most are the team are walking their one mile, some are going above and beyond and one member of the team, Tim Brown, is even completing his walk to work through Clifton dressed as a chicken.

Amanda Rundle, Operations and Production Manager for the department and Above & Beyond Charity Champion, said: “I thought of this idea because it’s easily achievable for a whole range of people, even if they think they are not fit.

“It gets everyone outside daily for fresh air and eases mental health issues we may be suffering due to Covid-19 and not being able to see people.

“I am walking with my chihuahua Izzy who I made a special Above & Beyond t-shirt for. She’s so small I had to cut down new born-size baby grows to fit her.

“I’m really enjoying finding new places to walk and seeing different parts of my area, and if the weather is bad it forces me and Izzy to leave the house.

“I can already feel the team becoming closer as we’re all liking one another’s posts on social media.”

So far the team have raised £1,650, well over their initial target of £1,000.
