When patients, their families and friends want to say thank you for the care they’ve received from our city centre hospitals, they come to Above & Beyond.

Dr Ian and Marjorie Ball wanted to express their gratitude for the wonderful care and treatment that Marjorie has received from Bristol Eye Hospital (BEH) for 20 years.

Ian wrote us a letter tell us why they donated £1,000:

 “During the past 20 years my wife Marjorie Ball (former Assistant to the CEO of University Hospitals Bristol NHS Foundation Trust) has been treated by staff at the Bristol Eye Hospital with exceptional care, skill and consideration. The people of Bristol are indeed most fortunate to have such an outstanding and dedicated team of clinicians and such a specialised hospital in their city.

My wife has suffered with iritis and glaucoma and very recently developed orbital cellulitis and was an inpatient there for a week. She has received both surgery and extensive medical treatment at the Bristol Eye Hospital over an extended period of very many years.

The serious nature of her last admission to the eye hospital has reinforced our long held conclusion that we are so lucky to have this valuable facility in Bristol.

As a token of our very considerable gratitude and esteem for all the expert care that my wife has receive by the Bristol Eye Hospital staff, I would like to make a donation to the Trust for use in the eye hospital for whatever they deem most appropriate, whether that is research or towards the purchase of new equipment.

Please convey our gratitude to all the staff at Bristol Eye Hospital for their care.”

We’d like to thank Ian and Marjorie for their very generous gift which will be used, in accordance with the couple’s request, where the need is greatest within the BEH.
