Marco Thompson Wakefield is cycling from Bristol to Bradford to raise money in memory of his nan.

He set off on Wednesday 16 June to cycle more than 200 miles from Bristol to the city in West Yorkshire, camping on the way to his final destination. He arrived in Bradford on 26 June.

Marco fundraised for Above & BeyondMarco’s nan, Billie Dale Wakefield, was treated at the Bristol Haematology and Oncology Centre (BHOC) before she passed away in 2020.

Marco said: “There were two hard points – the 30-mile day to Leek in outrageously hot weather and the second day on the Peaks when my whole gear got soaked through with rain. Going over the 1,700ft Mount Moss was incredibly windy.

“But both of these were easy compared to the three weeks in hospital with my nan.

“My nan was an amazing inspiration for me and received her end-of-life care with great support from the nurses and staff at BHOC.

“This donation will help provide that support to others in need.”
