A local man is planning to cycle the same distance as Land’s End to John O’Groats – in laps around his block.

Dan Cole had planned to take on the full cycle challenge this summer, but as this is now not possible he’s staying in Bristol to cycle the 1,066 kilometres.

All the money raised will go to the Bristol City Centre Hospitals Appeal.

Dan will cycle laps around his block, totalling 378 laps a day for five days, starting this Sunday.

He said: “I want to do something positive to help our local NHS hospitals who are doing an amazing job at this difficult time.

“My dad was recently discharged from the Bristol Heart Institute after suffering a heart attack. He had fantastic care and was nursed back to good health which me and my family are intensely grateful for.

“Anyone who has lived in Bristol all their lives will feel that they have a connection to these local hospitals.”

Dan will be cycling 213 kilometres every day, totalling the distance from Land’s End to John O’Groats as the crow flies.

He said: “I haven’t done anything like this before. The furthest I’ve cycled was to London but that was about 10 years ago.

“I’ve been training and cycle regularly so fingers crossed I’ll be fit enough.

“I’m looking forward to seeing all the support from our neighbours as I pass by their windows. It’ll help me cope with the monotony and the physical impact.”
