Tom Cave, Adult Therapy Pathway Lead for Oncology and Haematology at Bristol Haematology and Oncology Centre, has shaved his head to raise money for our hospitals.

Like many others, Tom started growing his hair during the Covid-19 lockdown – but he had
n’t had it cut since.

With his hair measuring in at 15.5 inches long, Tom donated his locks to the Little Princess Trust to be made into wigs for young patients with cancer.Tom donated his hair to the Little Princess Trust

He said: “At BHOC we see a lot of patients who have lost their hair through treatment or chemotherapy, and I thought it'd be a really nice thing to be able to donate.

“I've never had my hair this long. It takes a lot of maintenance. Hats off to anybody that has long hair!

“I'm looking forward to stepping out the shower, rubbing a towel over my head and being dry, and not having to comb it and hair dry it and all the extra bits that go along with having longer hair.

“I wanted to make sure that I had a clean start so I've shaved my head completely. I'm sure my wife is very happy. My kids maybe less so. It’s a bit of a shock to them.”

Tom shaved his head on 21st September, marking Cancer Rehabilitation Awareness Week.

“It’s an international awareness week to help people who’ve been diagnosed with cancer to get the right therapy to help them live their best lives,” Tom added, “It seemed like a good day to have a long-overdue haircut.”

“I’m aware that I'm getting it done right at the end of September so the weather will be turning and my head will probably be a little bit cooler again. So I've got a few nice hats that I'm picking out already to keep my head warm over the winter!

“To see my new hair cut in person, join me at the Ashton Court Park Run on 24th September with the 5K Your Way group.”

Tom has smashed his original target of £300 and has now raised almost £500.
