Volunteering as a student is a chance to give something back to your community while gaining valuable work experience and new skills.

At Above & Beyond we have a number of volunteering opportunities that would fit in perfectly with a student schedule. Here are just a few of them:

Fundraising Hub: Volunteer for a shift at our Fundraising Hub in Bristol Royal Infirmary’s Welcome Centre. Our Hub sells handmade greetings cards, second-hand books, Above & Beyond merchandise and other small gifts. It is also a donation point for fundraisers and donors and a space in which we can talk to people about the work Above & Beyond does for the hospitals. You’ll gain valuable experience in a charitable retail environment and as well as providing a welcoming atmosphere for patients, families, friends and staff members.

Shifts are available from 10am to 1:30pm, or 1:30pm to 5pm so can fit around lectures.

Event Support: We have events going on throughout the year and are always in need of more pairs of hands. It could be helping out on an awareness raising stall at an event in the city, acting as an usher for concerts, carrying collection buckets, or grabbing some pompoms to cheer on our wonderful fundraisers at local events such as the Bristol 10K and Half Marathon. You’ll gain event experience and speaking to members of the public can provide a boost in confidence and self-esteem.

Community Support: Promote the work of Above & Beyond by delivering flyers and posters to businesses or oversee collection tin sites in your local area. This is an ideal opportunity if you are looking for a more flexible way to support us and can commit to an hour or two a month, on an ad-hoc basis.

If you would like to find out more information about the volunteer roles available please contact our Volunteer Coordinator Lindsey Dowdell on [email protected] or 0117 992 6472 or download our Volunteer Application Form and send it to Lindsey.
