A surgeon’s children are fundraising for Above & Beyond.

Mohamed Shalaby is a Consultant Paediatric Surgeon and Urologist at Bristol Royal Hospital for Children (BRHC), where he has worked for seven years.

Having heard from their parents about the impact charity donations have at the hospital, the three sisters, led by their mum, decided to fundraise during lockdown to help make a difference to young patients.

Jude, 11, Aycel, nine, and Kanzy, seven, are making personalised packs containing a homemade bracelet, keyring, a poem, a crossword puzzle and other gifts for poorly children at BRHC.

For a donation of £3 via their JustGiving page, the sisters will make the packs for their dad to deliver to patients.

Jude said: “This is my first time leading a fundraising project. I am enjoying working with my sisters to make these lovely, colourful and personalised packs. We have always enjoyed doing crafts so we thought we could use our skills to help raise money for the sick kids at the children’s hospital.”

Aycel said: “I have been learning about children’s mental health. This is especially for the children who are not feeling well and are away from their homes.”

Kanzy said: “I am happy I can make children smile.”

At BRHC, Above & Beyond has funded arts and craft materials for the Play Team, a sensory unit for the cardiac ward and resources to support children having treatment for cancer.
