National Elf Service Day is all about having fun and raising funds for Bristol's hospitals, while celebrating the amazing work of the NHS, who will be there for us 24/7 over the Christmas. This is Hannah's story.

Hannah is treated for Cystic Fibrosis at Bristol Royal Infirmary and, as a result, spends a lot of time in hospital – including a stay in hospital over the Christmas holidays.

“Spending Christmas in hospital was far from ideal, but the nurses on the ward all made a huge effort coming into work wearing Christmas hats, earrings and even some jazzy festive socks! It was all accompanied with lots of singing to cheer up the patients and we were all given a little present. Ward A900 staff are like family to me so to be there at Christmas would be my second choice after being at home!

The care I got on the ward is amazing, it’s completely above and beyond what is expected. Once a week, when in hospital, I get a fab massage from Vanessa which is funded by Above & Beyond. Sitting on a bed for weeks at a time can give you a bad back so it really does help me relax and take my mind off being in hospital.”
