Patient, Golden Gift Appeal supporter and regular donor, Rosemary Hopkins has been treated at the Bristol Haematology and Oncology Centre (BHOC) after being diagnosed with Chronic Myeloid Leukaemia in 2012. She was also cared for in Bristol Royal Infirmary’s Intensive Care Unit after a serious lung and chest infection left her with breathing difficulties at times.

During this time, Rosemary witnessed the outstanding transformation your Golden Gift Appeal donations helped to create.

I’ve supported a number of charities over the years and nine times out of ten I don’t actually see where the money goes but with Bristol & Weston Hospitals Charity, I’ve seen first-hand the difference my money makes.

The new bone marrow transplant ward is just beautiful. It’s so light and airy and the private rooms make a huge difference when you’re having bone marrow biopsies. Previously, I had them on the old ward with lots of other patients who were having chemotherapy and other treatments so knowing I had my own space provided a great comfort.

Rosemary has now been given the all clear but still goes for check-ups every three months. As a way of saying thank you for the incredible care she received, she regularly donates through direct debit, as well as playing our lottery.

We rely on generous donors like Rosemary to improve patient care in our hospitals. Please help to make a difference to patients, their families and staff who treat them by becoming a regular donor or by playing the Bristol & Weston Hospitals Charity Weekly Lottery.
