Southmead Hospital

Southmead Hospital is a centre of excellence for healthcare in the South West in a number of specialities including major trauma, neurosciences, strokes, burns, NICU and maternity care across the region. 

It is also a major teaching and research facility in close collaboration with University of Bristol and the University of the West of England (UWE Bristol).

Each year, Southmead hospital treats 350,000 patients across a wide range of specialities. 

Southmead is home to one of two adult Major Trauma Centres in the South West and is equipped with an on-site helipad and state-of-the-art facilities. 

Surgeons at the hospital have been performing world-first robotic-assisted operations for nearly two decades. 

The Brunel building opened in 2014 and won Best Designed Large Hospital Internationally at the European Healthcare Design Awards. 

At its opening in 2014, the Brunel building was recognized as the UK’s greenest hospital including having over 700 trees planted across the grounds and a rooftop herb garden funded by the charity.
