National Elf Service Day is all about having fun and raising funds for Bristol's hospitals, while celebrating the amazing work of the NHS, who will be there for us 24/7 over the Christmas.

Being in hospital does not only impact patients but their loved ones too. This is Charlotte, Matt and Evie's story.

Charlotte and Matt spent Christmas last year preparing for the birth of their third child, Evie, who was diagnosed with a cleft lip at their 20 week scan.

"We were devestated to discover Evie's condition at our 20 week scan and knew very little about what to expect. Straight away we were referred to the South West Cleft Service within Bristol Dental Hospital and Bristol Royal Hospital for Children

"They provided us with fantastic care and support from there onwards and answered every question we had - no matter how big or small.

"We had a lot of worry and stress during Christmas but with the support from both hospital teams, we managed to have a calm, relaxed and enjoyable family Christmas. We love how the staff in the hospitals go out of their way to make it a special time and how they give the best they can to the poorly children who have to spend Christmas in hospital.

"Our daughter was born seven weeks later and as soon as she was placed in our arms, we instantly felt a huge sense of relief. We fell in love with her cleft straight away.

"Dr Alistair Cobb carried out Evie's repair in July 2018 at the children's hospital and his dedication and passion to his work is incredible. We were amazed by how well Evie handled the procedure.

"We now want to say thank you to Bristol's hospitals and so far we have raised £2,000 - more than double our original target. It's fantastic to know we are making a real difference to patients, families and staff in our hospitals."
